With some airlines, a child aged 4 to 12 years of age may travel alone provided a support service is booked with the airline. These children are required to travel as Unaccompanied Minors (UMs) and placed under the responsibility of the airline staff who will accompany them during the various stages of the journey.
This airline may levy a charge for this service. Please note that some companies do not offer this service, including British Airways and low-cost carriers such as Ryanair or Easyjet.
Before confirming your booking it is mandatory to check the specific conditions of the airline as each carrier applies different policies (age limits, availability depending on routes, etc).
How to book
When making a booking online and you require assistance for an unaccompanied minor, you should to select the option "Some of the passengers have special requirements" on the Payment page and then from the list "Minor travelling alone". Please note that this service needs to be requested before the tickets are issued, in case the airline refuses your request. You will need to provide full details (including name, address, phone number, ID or passport number) of the person taking the child to the airport and the person collecting at the destination. Once we receive your booking request, we will contact you via email requesting the exact information required by the airline.
At the airport
After check-in, the child is taken care of by the airline and will be accompanied through the airport security to the departure lounge before being handed over to the cabin crew for their flight. It is recommended that parents/guardians stay at the airport until the aircraft has taken off.
At the arrival airport the cabin crew will hand the child to the ground staff who will escort them through immigration, customs and to the baggage reclaim. The child will then be handed over to the waiting adult. Please be aware that the ground staff will ask the adult for identification.
Passengers aged 12-17 years, legally considered a minor, can travel alone with some airlines. Some other carriers may not authorize these minors to travel alone, please check the conditions applied by your airline before making your booking.
